Ilex aquifolium or English holly, is a tree common to Western Europe that has a slow growth and hard wood. It loves to grow in the underwoods with acidic soil, in the shade of Oaks and European Beeches. The alternating persistent foliage is dense and dark green. The leaves of this tree are leathery, shiny, and covered with thorns. The white or pinkish flowers usually bloom in May-June in the axils of the leaves.[1]
